BEYOND IDENTITY

"BEYOND IDENTITY: ADVOCATING FOR THE DEEN AS A MUSLIM"

Dear brethren, there is no favor or blessing that can be compared to the privilege of being a Muslim. There is no achievement, or success, that can be compared to the achievement of being created as a Muslim, without working for it or paying a dime. We, as the best of Allah's creations, are inherently different from the rest of humanity.

However, permit me to tell you that being a Muslim extends beyond mere identity markers like bearing a muslim name, name, using the hijab, or keeping your beards. Dear brethren, the fact that we are Muslims is what automatically makes us exemplary creatures of Allah, but the question is, "HOW WELL HAVE YOU AND I ADVOCATED FOR THE DEEN? HOW WELL DO WE DEFEND THE RELIGION OF ISLAM, AND HOW MUCH DO WE STRIVE FERVENTLY TO BE IDEAL MUSLIMS.

To the Muslim females, using the HIJAB is mandatory upon you as Muslim ladies, but I want you to know that in as much you have no excuse for not using the HIJAB, merely bearing the name Fatimah, Zahra, Sekinah, Aminat, Aisha, etc, and using the HIJAB alone doesn't make you different from any other random lady out there. Rather, your distinctiveness lies in how well you use the hijab, how much you advocate for it,

how much you can confidently defend your reasons for using it, and how many muslim ladies have become better through your actions and words. To the Muslim brothers, keeping your beards, not wearing trousers below or even touching your ankle, cutting low your finger nails, and praying 5 times daily salat in the mosque, except in rare cases where you have to pray at home, is mandatory upon you as male Muslims, but I want you to know that your being a Muslim goes beyond these rituals.

Rather, what makes you different from any Akin, Tamodu, Lagbaja, SHOMOLU, etc. is how you well you have advocated for Islam, how much you defend your identity as a Muslim, what legacy you are building for yourself as a Muslim, how much you are Striving to be an ambassador of Islam, how you have used the little you know to bring others closer to Allah, how many Muslims you have helped become better through your lifestyle, words, legacy, actions, activities, dressing,

and how much you can confidently tell a lady that HANDSHAKE/SHAKING THE OPPOSITE SEX IS HARAM IN ISLAM. To my dear Muslim parents, the fact that you were blessed with offsprings, and have a child to call your own doesn't mean you deserve it, it doesn't mean you earned it, it doesn't mean that those who are barren, infertile, or are yet to bear children have offended Allah, or that you are better than them. No! Yes, because if Allah willed, He would have kept you in their shoes,

but no, he poured upon you one of his most priceless blessings, "A CHILD," and in return, He demands that you carry out your roles and responsibilities dutifully as a parent. Dear parents, it is not enough for you to give birth, organise the naming ceremony of your children, and give them beautiful Islamic names for the society to address them by. No! Your roles and responsibilities as a parent, especially as a Muslim, goes beyond all these.

The big question is, how much have you nurtured their self-consciousness as Muslims, how often do you remind them about Allah, how many times do you remind them about the hearafter, or let them know that the punishment of the fire of hell and eternal bliss, enjoyment and tranquil of Al-Jannah, is incomparable to anything they have seen with their naked eyes, how often do you exercise your right as a parent upon them when it comes to matters of the Deen,

how often do you compel them to pray salat, how often do you go through their phones to see what kind of stuff they do on social media, what kind of videos they watch, what kind of friends they hang around with, what kind of relationship they keep, what kind of videos or movies they watch on their phones, what kind of guys your female daughters move with, what friends they chat with on social media, what they discuss, or do on social media, or if your negligence has not caused them to be pornography addicts,

porn stars, yahoo youths, internet fraudsters, leaking buckets, puppets for the opposite sex, or music addicts. Dear parents, HOW OFTEN DO YOU DO ALL THIS? HOW OFTEN DO YOU CARRY OUT ALL THESE RESPONSIBILITIES? OR DON'T YOU KNOW THAT ALLAH WILL ASK YOU? DON'T YOU KNOW THAT YOU WILL ACCOUNT FOR EVERYTHING? DON'T YOU KNOW THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR SHARE OF PUNISHMENT FOR ANYTHING THEY DO THAT IS AGAINST THE INJUNCTIONS OF ALLAH?

OR WAIT, DO YOU THINK THAT THE FIRE OF HELL IS SOMETHING YOU CAN ENDURE? IF YOU CANNOT ENDURE THE HEAT OF THE SUN, OR THE HEAT FROM USING THE HIJAB LIKE MANY MUSLIM LADIES IGNORANTLY USE AN EXCUSE, AND IF YOU CANNOT DEEP YOUR HAND INTO A COOKING POT OF RICE FOR JUST 30 MINUTES, THEN WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THAT YOU CAN BEAR OR EVEN STAND THE SMELL OR SIGHT OF THE FIRE OF HELL? May Allah continue to forgive us, perfect all our dispositions, help us to obey him, and shield us from the fire of hell. Amin!
