The noble prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, "When two persons are together, two of them must not whisper to each other, without letting the third hear; because it would hurt him."
Today, especially amongst the ladies, it is a notorious fact that gossiping and backbiting is one of the most toxic habit thriving in our midst today. There is hardly any gathering we find ourselves in, be it school, mosque or work place that we don't see TWO OR MORE people, ESPECIALLY the ladies, even the Muslim sisters gossiping AMONGST and ABOUT one another.
It is even more disheartening to say that even while the KHUTBAH is going on, many of us find pleasure in gossiping, backbiting and discussing irrelevant issues, instead of listening quietly and sincerely to what the Imam is saying. For the prophet himself to rebuke this act, then it is apparently undisputable that the negative effects of these vice is immense and destructive in nature.
If only we can ponder on, and hold on tightly to this golden advice from the noble prophet Muhammad (SAW), maybe sects and ignorance as a result of inadequate knowledge of the Deen will not be as rampant as they are today. Yes, because if people listen with open and sincere hearts to the KHUTBAH, and thread the right path,
then destruction of family ties, envy, hatred and jealousy will not be thriving earnestly in our society today, and there will be less cases of crime, war and social unrest. May Allah continue to increase is in Iman, forgive our shortcomings, and make conscious Muslims. Amin!
