Today, we have approximately 2 billion muslims in the world today, which makes islam the second largest religion in the world. But, it is also sad to say that no religion or race is as divided as muslims today. Why? Because we have forgotten the Sunnah, Hadith and the teachings of the Quran which are meant to be our guide and knot that ties all muslims together.
Allah said in Quran, Surah Al-Hujurat, verse 13, “Oh mankind, indeed, I have created you from the male and the female and made you nations and tribes so that you may get to know each other. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most God conscious of you. Indeed, Allah is All Knowing and All Aware”.
It’s important to understand that Allah is telling us that he has created humans differently and misunderstandings are bound to arise as a result of these differences but we should get to know one another, understand one another, tolerate and endure one another for unity to thrive.
The creator of humanity is informing us in this verse, that we were created different right from the offset, so then your opinions will be different, your thoughts will be different, your taste will be different, what you enjoy will be different and our political ideologies will be different. But, these differences shouldn't lead to our division.
So, my question to you is, do you think that these differences will not remain with us even if we are from one group of people or one family, never! Misunderstandings are bound to arise as long as humans are concerned. We find that as parents, every child is different and they love to play with each other, and they love to bicker and fight.
These children are drawn together by their family ties, yet sometimes you can enjoy their company and other times they frustrate you. This is the case within one family. So what about a nation or a tribe which is built up of many hundreds of thousands of families.
Today, Nigeria as a whole is going through a phase in our lives that will surely pass and coupled with the recent crises, the 2023 general elections is adding to the tension but as muslims and humans in general, it is obligatory upon us to remain steadfast, hold on tightly to the rope of Allah and not allow ourselves to be divided because of these crises as well as our difference in political ideologies.
Dear viewers, it is normal for you to support peter obi while your loved ones may support Tinubu, it is normal for you to support Tinubu, while your loved ones may support Peter Obi BUT hating one another, destroying family bonds, cutting family ties, wishing your fellow loved ones harm and killing one another ruthlessly all in the name of justifying your own political ideology or choice of leader is the most FOOLISH, STUPID AND INHUMANE ACT ANYONE WILL EVER INDULGE IN!
For God's sake, it's high time we understood that all these misunderstandings are normal but using such trivial issues to affect our relationship with one another is baseless dear. Every individual you see out there has been and is still going through a lot.
Everyone you see out there trying to force out a smile on their faces have their own personal problems, problems they don't understand themselves talk more of sharing with others. So, what on earth is your problem with who is supporting Peter Obi or not, who on earth are you to think that your own problem is worse than theirs, who are you to add to people's problem by using your own political opinion or ideology to cause havoc and unrest.
Aren't we sensible enough to understand that unrest, blood shed and hatred has and will never solve any problem BUT ADD TO IT! Please, enough is enough! Nigeria is going through a lot already. This is not the time for us to fight amongst ourselves, this is not the time for us to blame one another or even the government for whatever's going on in our lives right now.
This is the time for us to support one another, stand by one another's side, be one another's strength, motivate one another to keep staying strong amidst all the odds and this is the time for us to put our damn ego, misunderstandings, ideologies and differences aside and become united as one. That is the only way we can survive all these guys.
Lastly, Allah's Messenger (ï·º) said, "A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection . "
Here, the prophet (SAW) is telling us that, instead of dividing ourselves and building hatred for one another because of the fact that a particular group of Muslim does not support your own party or political leader, instead of fighting amongst ourselves and spilling our own brother's blood because of politicians that give little or no regards to our voices talk more of our interest,
Let us come together as one ummah, let us love another irrespective of our social class, differences and sects and safeguard the interest of one another and promote the unity of Islam. May Allah grant every Muslim the strength to remain steadfast in this trying times, may Allah not make us Muslims who will earn his wrath through our actions and may Allah not allow our desires and differences destroy the unity of the Muslim ummah. Amin.
