Be it as a coach, writer or event host, especially as a public speaker, it is not your voice, accent or looks that gets people to listen to you or read your contents, no! Infact, no matter how nice your voice or ascent is, if you are speaking jabberwocky English(RUBBISH), and frequently making blunders, NOBODY WILL LISTEN TO YOU.

Rather, it is your ability to speak good English, pronounce words correctly, construct your sentences in a way that suits your audience, your audibility, and the value of what you want to deliver is what makes your audience eager to listen to you. 

So, as a public speaker if you want to command respect from your audience, and earn the rapt attention of your audience, then you need to nurture your vocabulary, learn how to pronounce words correctly, and master the art and act of constructing and organizing your sentences in a way that suits your audience as well as the occasion.
